Badiee Pooshal Gohar Saffron – 4gSaffron — the world’s most valuable, aromatic, and iconic spice — holds a place of distinction in gourmet cooking, luxury cosmetics, and wellness traditions.
Iran, recognized as the birthplace of saffron, produces over 99% of the global supply, serving as the largest exporter worldwide, with China as its principal importer.
Its unique aroma and exquisite taste are attributed to Safranal, while the brilliant golden hue comes from Crocin. To safeguard authenticity and detect adulteration, advanced methods such as mass spectrometry and high‑performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) are used.
Key Components of Saffron
| Component | Function / Description |
|---|---|
| Crocin | Responsible for saffron’s vivid golden coloring |
| Picrocrocin | Provides subtle bitterness |
| Safranal | Signature fragrance of saffron |
| Lycopene | Carotenoid also found in tomatoes |
| Beta-carotenes | Carotenoids also present in carrots |
Botanical Profile
The saffron plant (Crocus sativus) is a small perennial herb reaching 10–30 cm in height. Its bulb produces slender green leaves and a flowering stem bearing 1–3 blossoms.
Flowers feature six violet petals (occasionally pink or purple), three yellow stamens, and a pistil tipped with a three-branched red-orange stigma.
The spice itself comes from the dried stigmas and style tip — prized worldwide for its fragrance, mild bitterness, and vibrant color.
Pooshal Saffron (Thread Saffron)
Pooshal Saffron is one of the key saffron grades. In its processing, a portion of the style — typically 1 to 3 mm — is left attached to the stigmas.
The inclusion of part of the stigma reduces the likelihood of adulteration and increases consumer confidence. Its coloring strength is higher than Dasteh (Bunch) saffron, which is why farmers often supply this variety. However, its quality is considered lower than Sargol saffron.
Appearance Characteristics:
- The three stigma branches remain attached together.
- Quality ranks between Dasteh and Sargol grades.
- A white style segment is visible at the base, so the color is not purely uniform red.
- Coloring strength ranges from 170 to 200 units, depending on quality.
Types of Pooshal Saffron
- Standard Pooshal – Regular thickness and inclusion of style.
- Pooshal Ghollamdaar (Long-Stem Pooshal) – Features thick, smooth stigmas without curls, with minimal style attached.
